CHINA POTTERY TOUR & Workshops

The group organizer, Ellen E. Day, is the Director of BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center in Long Island City, NY. She holds an MFA from The City College, CUNY and a BFA from SUNY, New Paltz. This will be her third trip to China.
The group leader, Jackson Li, is an internationally recognized Chinese ceramic artist. He is known for his ability to introduce travelers to local people so that you can observe their lifestyles in their workshops and homes, be they master potters, farmers or local artisans. You will be introduced to the unique cuisines and dishes of the local areas visited.

The cost for this tour includes all domestic flights and transportation in China along with hotels, meals, workshops, symposiums, studio spaces, and English and Chinese translators. Not included: international airfare, overweight baggage, travel visa, and travel insurance. The tour is customized for not more than 18 persons and will require a degree of physical fitness.

Image Transfer Techniques for Clay with Paul Andrew Wandless

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to various image transfer techniques and give an understanding of the tools, materials, and techniques for monoprinting, screening, stenciling, embossing and relief printing on clay slabs and plaster. Learn how to create images on screens, relief blocks and stencils to make your own printing tools. All levels of experience are welcome.

The workshop will cover most of the material in Paul's book "Image Transfer on Clay" released in October 2006 by Lark Books. Participants will also be trained in new techniques coming out in his next book.
